the breakthrough curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to encourage critical thinking, writing, and presentation skills in self-contained, intensive classes. Breakthrough tries not to suffocate our students with busywork outside of the classroom as we recognize that a students' time is one of their most precious assets. Our goal at Breakthrough is to foster a students' confidence, identity, direction, and drive by asking them questions that make them think.

THE INTERVIEW

Each student enrolled at Breakthrough is given a comprehensive one on one interview to help us better understand a student's personality, interests, and goals. The interview acts as both introduction to Breakthrough and valuable preparation for future endeavors.

Entrepreneurship

Breakthrough's award winning Entrepreneurship program competes  in nationwide high school business plan competitions, bringing student concepts to life. 

PERSONAL ESSAY

college ADMISSIONS

Our approach to the college personal statement is to examine it as a piece of creative nonfiction. Students analyze personal essays, longform, and structure all under the guiding question: "What is good writing?" Our methodology is to not standardize the personal statement under a template, but rather pesonalize for the individual. 

Our comprehensive College Admissions program includes both Interview,  Personal Statement, and Writing Lab Sessions, along with individual planning and a comprehensive look at the college admissions process, its history, and the meaning of the word diversity in the context of college applications.  

 FUNDAMENTALS

,Fundamentals provides students a primer on both writing and presentation skills. Designed as the building block for the rest of the curriculum at Breakthrough. 

THINK TANK 

Our  approach to critical thinking, Think Tank is a game show oriented class where students shape the discussion by asking questions while collaborating and competing for supremacy. 

CIVICS

Designed to prepare our students to be responsible students, Civics empowers students by guiding them to be the change they want to see in the world. 

Writing lab

Every weekend Breakthrough offers an open writing lab to any student enrolled at the school. Here, students can hone the concepts they've been introduced to in other classes with individual guidance from our coaches.
